Beyond the Classroom: Humane Education in the Wild!

Presented by Danielle Hanosh

Young people are more disconnected from nature than ever before, and with a clear connection between time spent outdoors and mental health, it's no wonder our children and teens are suffering record levels of anxiety and depression. In order to develop empathy for others, it's important young people learn how to first develop a mindset of optimism, resilience, and altruism. The LEAP (Leaders for Ethics, Animals and the Planet) program was developed to help them do just that. With classroom lessons aligned with both Common Core and social/emotional learning standards, collaborative service projects, and immersive hands-on workshops at sanctuaries across the US and Canada, LEAP fosters leadership, empathy, and a strong connection to the natural world. They empower middle and high school students to tackle challenging issues such as anti-speciesism, plant-based living, the intersection of human and animal rights, and climate justice, equipping a whole new generation of ethical leaders. Please join us to learn more about getting humane education out of the classroom and into the world!
