    JOB SUMMARY

    Under the direction of the Director of Outreach & Volunteer Programs, the Outreach & Education Manager oversees the growth, management & program success for several key Community Outreach programs: Pet Health Fairs and the New Mexico Humane Conference. This role also oversees the organization’s youth & adult Humane Education programs.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    Pet Health Fairs

    Plans and executives free-to low-cost vaccination and microchip clinics in target areas of Albuquerque. Completes site visits, assists with securing veterinary support and stewardship, maintains inventory, orders behavior and medical supplies, completes paperwork, manages day-of event activities, and completes necessary post-event data entry. Tracks and manages program budget. Events should occur at least four times annually.

    New Mexico Humane Conference

    Act as Chair for the annual New Mexico Humane Conference (NMHC), and oversee all aspects of planning, including budget development, venue arrangements, speaker solicitation, sponsor & exhibitor solicitation and fundraising to meet annual goals. Complete work with guidance & direction from the Executive Director & Director of Outreach & Volunteer Programs. Plan other animal welfare professional development opportunities as directed by the Executive Director. This requires monitoring trends within the animal welfare industry to ensure up-to-date educational materials and topics are provided by selected speakers.

    Humane Education

    Oversee the operations of all youth & adult education programs at Animal Humane. Provide leadership & support to the Humane Educator in delivering humane education lessons and materials to both youth and adults around the Central New Mexico region. Assist the Humane Educator with graphic design, website, or other marketing requests, assist in volunteer recruitment and stewardship and assist in planning for Winter Adventure Camp & Camp Humane Summer Camp. Ensure Humane Educator has sufficient volunteer or staff support, filling in when necessary for presentations, tours, service projects or at camp.

    Administrative Tasks

    · Contributes to monthly Board/SMT reports.

    · Maintain accurate data records for all programs.

    · As needed, assist with grant reporting, grant research and solicitation in partnership with the Development department.

    · Track all program invoices in respective budgets.

    · Conduct staff evaluations for Humane Educator.

    · All other duties as assigned by the Director of Outreach & Volunteer Programs.

    Program Management

    1. For all programs under their preview:

    o Maintain accurate data records to consistently analyze processes & procedures for efficient & effective program operations.

    o Track all program invoices and ensure prompt payment to partners.

    o Manage program costs and accurately track internal and grant reporting.

    2. Ensure the continuation of accurate and easy-to-interpret data records for all department initiatives/program under their purview.

    3. Produce copy for newsletters, mailed letters, marketing collateral, grant proposals or other printed materials as needed.

    4. Attend and/or participate in Animal Humane events on an as-needed or as-requested basis. Work as a team member among all departments at Animal Humane.

    5. Participate in webinars, on-line discussion lists and similar to continuously improve skills, build knowledge of best practices and develop new ideas within volunteer management.

    JOB REQUIREMENTS

    Experience

    A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, communications, social work, education or directly related field is required. In lieu of a degree, consideration will be given to an appropriate and significant related experience in project coordination and/or community outreach experience. Experience within animal welfare industry encouraged.

    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

    · Outstanding verbal and written communication skills.

    · Bilingual fluency in English and Spanish is highly desirable.

    · Experience with event planning and project management.

    · Ability to work with diverse groups of individuals and organizations, including staff, volunteers, community leaders, board, public, businesses, and media.

    We are seeking a passionate and dedicated individual to join our team as a Humane Education Coordinator. This position plays a crucial role in overseeing programs and outreach initiatives aimed at educating both children and adults on the principles of responsible pet care and ownership. The ideal candidate will have a deep commitment to animal welfare, exceptional organizational and communication skills, and a strong background in developing and implementing educational programs.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    Humane Education:

    · Design, develop, and implement comprehensive humane education programs for Longmont Humane Society (LHS).

    · Create engaging and age-appropriate curriculum materials that address various aspects of proper pet care, animal behavior, and the importance of empathy towards animals.

    · Coordinate onsite tours with local community, business, education, and volunteer groups.

    · Oversee a successful summer camp program for children ages 7-9 and 10-12, with an eye towards expanding the program into fall, winter, and spring breaks.

    PRIMARY PURPOSE: To develop and present animal welfare education programs to a wide variety of groups from youth to adults that could include schools, youth groups, community businesses, college campuses and many other audiences as needed. Education Programs Coordinator must customize content to be adapted to influence a range of audiences. Administrative tasks including purchasing supplies for events and programs and collecting data to measure program impact.

    Reports To: Manager of Education Programs

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES/FUNCTIONS:

    • Student Education Programs. Coordinates, promotes, prepares and presents programs with partners all around the island including youth contests, service learning classes, mentoring students, managing the Teens4Animals Council, delivering in-school presentations and supporting the integration of humane education programs in schools and other organizations. This may also include hosting service learning classes including Animal Hero and Paws & Patches.
    • Community Presentations. Promotes, coordinates and delivers community presentations for youth and adults. Adult education audiences include civic clubs, kūpuna centers, businesses and government agencies.
    • Service Learning Projects. Provides mentorship for youth completing service learning projects.
    • Campus Tours. Hosts educational campus tours for youth groups such as Girl Scouts, school classes, and adult groups.
    • Teens4Animals Council. Manages the Teens4Animals Council including planning, organizing and coordinating their application process, 4-day summer training activities and lessons, quarterly meetings, graduation party planning, and mentoring them throughout the year.
    • Program Assessment. Works with supervisor to decide program effectiveness and evaluates if programs should be reworked, removed or reimagined. Effectiveness is based on participation, demand and functionality.
    • Resource Materials & CARE Curriculum. Keeps teachers up-to-date with information regarding educational presentations, contests and programs via email or other forms of communication.
    • School Partnerships. Develops and implements partnerships that could include events, education, internships and programs available for students around the island.
    • Program Impact. Works with supervisor to report statistics for student education programs, presentations, outreach education, community events, CARE and students mentored in their designated area.
    • Professional Development. Expands knowledge pertinent to this position by seeking professional development opportunities regarding trends and best practices in education, the humane education field and volunteer development.

    JOB CONDITIONS:

    General Summary:

    The Community Outreach and Event Coordinator will work with the Executive Director and Development Director as part of the Communication and Development team (CAD) to create and implement initiatives that increase our organization's visibility within the surrounding communities. This position will represent BHS and help develop, deliver and maintain all community outreach activities and inspire community-member engagement. Duties include coordinating events for engagement within the local and surrounding communities, maintaining a calendar for outreach events and working closely with community partners to help plan and execute various outreach opportunities.     • Work with a supervisor to develop and oversee a budget and track necessary data for youth programming.
    • Work with the Communications Specialist to promote these programs to the public as necessary

    Supervisory Responsibilities: none; however, this position may support the supervision of summer camp assistants and teen volunteers if needed

    Qualifications:

    • Professional work experience in a similar role, preferably in an educational and/or animal welfare environment
    • Experience delivering educational programming and supervising children in a classroom/group setting
    • Ability to work comfortably with and around animals following internal procedures and protocols. Some animal handling (cats, dogs, small companions) experience a plus
    • Passion and commitment to the ethical treatment of animals and people including seeking continued education on the best practices in the fields of animal welfare, community and humane education
    • Excellent people and customer service skills, pleasant demeanor, patient and professional
    • Comfort with public speaking and speaking to large groups both in person and virtually
    • Flexible schedule with the ability to work evenings, weekends, non-standard hours and overtime, if needed
    • Detail oriented with proven organizational and follow through skills, capacity to work well under pressure and in a fast-paced environment
    • Strong computer literacy, Microsoft Office, Google Suite, etc.
    • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
    • Ability to pass a background clearance
    • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team in a hands on work environment
    • Ability to maintain calm, composed and positive in stressful, sensitive or emergency situations
    • Adaptable to shifting needs, evolving priorities and urgent situations that arise
    • Ability to maintain discretion with confidential information
    • Have a passion for the mission and a deep commitment to the goals of the organization


    Typical physical & mental demands: 
    Requires frequent bending, reaching, stooping, kneeling, walking/standing, eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity sufficient to operate a keyboard, telephone, photocopier, calculator and other equipment or machinery. Will have exposure to injured and deceased animals, disinfectant solutions, and variable indoor and outdoor temperatures. May assist in animal restraint and deal with distressed or dangerous animals, and could be subject to bites and scratches. Requires manual dexterity to keep a strong animal on leash or operating a door while holding a strong animal on leash simultaneously. May be required to lift heavy items or animals (upwards of 50 lbs) and be otherwise physically active. Requires normal range of hearing and eyesight to communicate with the public, volunteers, staff, and animals. Also requires flexibility and adaptability to work with frequent interruptions. Must be comfortable around dogs, cats, small companion animals, reptiles, amphibians and wildlife.

    Vaccination requirement: Upon hire, employees will be required to receive rabies prophylaxis and tetanus vaccinations.
