2027 APHE Conference, April 28th - 30th

We are thrilled to announce the upcoming conference, From Neighbors to Networks: Humane Education as the Bridge to Compassion, and are seeking speakers for this empowering event. This conference aims to delve deep into the realm of empathy and compassion, and explore the ways in which we can expand upon our program development, interactions with others, and our ideas about what humane education is.

Date: April 28th - 30th

Location: Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

Speaker Guidelines:

We are seeking dynamic speakers who possess expertise in the fields of animal welfare, education, mental health, technology, psychology, social sciences, leadership, community engagement, and other related disciplines. If you have a compelling story, groundbreaking research, or practical tools to share on the power of empathy and compassion, we encourage you to submit your proposal. We are specifically seeking presentations on a variety of the following themes/topics:


Community Connections, Collaborations, and Partnerships

  • Making introductions and networking effectively

  • Designing collaborative programs

  • Creating and utilizing your digital network

  • Finding ways to incorporate HE into non-traditional partnerships

  • Building a network of local colleagues and other informal educators


Creative Funding Sources and Leadership Buy-In

  • Expanding financial support for HE programs

  • Incorporating HE in strategic planning and interdepartmental collaborations

  • Strategies for showcasing the value of HE


Cultivating a Diverse and Inclusive Space

  • Trainings for diversity, social justice, and cultural perspectives 

  • Resources for accessibility and neurodivergent learners 

  • Creating positive classroom culture  


Classroom Management, Teaching Resources, and Audience Engagement 

  • Engaging games, crafts, and activities

  • Teacher tips and tricks 

  • Resources to support teachers and their programming 

  • Adapting lessons and language for your audience


Specific Programs and Audiences

  • Programs for adult audiences

  • Programs for middle and high school learners

  • Organizational language choices and communication strategies

  • Unique lessons and themes

  • Designing programs to fit the needs of your community


Animal and Environmental Welfare

  • Incorporating sustainability into programming

  • One Health initiatives and lessons

  • New and best practices in animal welfare 

  • Protocols and welfare for animal ambassadors

  • Incorporating and encouraging environmental stewardship 


Please note: APHE, a not-for-profit organization, does not pay per diem, honoraria, or travel expenses for presenters. Presenters are able to apply for scholarships as needed. Thank you for your interest in presenting at the 2027 APHE Conference!
