My name is Jesika (she/her) and I am an EdD student, specializing in Humane Education. I live in Cleveland, Ohio, which is on the colonized traditional homelands of the Erie, Seneca, Lenape, and Wyandot peoples, as well as other natural inhabitants. I share my home and life with my husband, Chris, and our children, Diego (dog), Gianni (cat), and the energy of Bishop (dog).
Although I started out my career working in higher education, I later found my passion working in event fundraising for a local humane society. While I loved my work, the culmination of my time at the organization was when I was being bullied and harassed by the Executive Director. It started to have an adverse impact on my physical and mental health. After leaving, it occurred to me that, although I was working for a "humane" society, the term was not being applied equally to humans or the ecosystem (or to the majority of nonhuman animals for that matter).
My husband and I own a small CSP (cloud solutions provider) business and I now serve in the role of VP of Business Operations.
My experiences have shown me how much our legal system mirrors societal views and the crucial role education can play in finding effective ways to create change.
