APHE Board of Directors

Nominations & Applications for 2026

APHE is seeking passionate and committed members to join the Board of Directors!

Term:

Spring 2026-Spring 2028 (2-year commitment)

Applicants must meet the following requirement:

  • Current APHE membership status for a minimum of one year
  • Attendance to at least one APHE National Humane Education Conference (in person or virtually)
  • 1+ years of experience in the field of humane education or related field (paid or volunteer position)
  • Available to participate in Board Elect Onboarding from October 2025-April 2026. During this period, electees will be invited to join APHE working committees and board meetings to fully engage with the current APHE Board and gain a working knowledge of processes and on-going tasks.

Board Member Duties:

  1. Attend and assist with hosting the annual conference.

  2. Attend and actively participate in 4 annual full-board meetings.

    • Two are in person* and are two days in length. One is scheduled in conjunction with the annual conference.

    • Two other meetings will be 4-hour virtual meetings.

  3. Serve and participate on at least two committees.

  4. Advance the mission of the organization.

    • Collaborate and communicate with board members.

    • Follow through on assignments.

If circumstances permit, applicants must be prepared to travel twice a year for Board meetings. This requires applicants to have support of their executive director and/or  Board of Directors as this commitment will require time away from work, travel costs, and availability to participate in virtual meetings. Limited funds may be available to assist with travel costs. However, if circumstances do not permit, the meeting will be held virtually.

How to Nominate:

The goal of the APHE board is to support members of the organization by providing and increasing member benefits. That goal is accomplished through a combination of efforts, but is significantly due to the steadfast work done by the 12 to 15 volunteer board members each year. As such, we invite members to take a role in our election process! The first step to this election process is to provide suggestions or nominations of current APHE members that you think could be a good fit on the board and a future leader of APHE.

If you would like to nominate someone to submit an application to serve on the APHE board of directors, or if you would like to be contacted to learn more about the process of submitting an application, please submit this form by July 7th and a member of our Nominations Committee will reach out with more information.

How to Apply:

The APHE Board requests each applicant submit a resume, current photo, and brief statement to nominations@aphe.org.

Within your statement, please include answers to the following questions:

1. Why do you wish to serve on this board?

2. What abilities do you have that you feel would be an asset to APHE?

3. How will you be a quality board member?

4. Tell us about your work history in the humane education field.

Complete applicant submissions must be received by the APHE Nominating Committee at nominations@aphe.org by September 1, 2025.

Applications will be reviewed and then posted publicly online prior to APHE membership voting, allowing members to get to know each candidate. Note: please omit any personal information you do not want shared publicly online (like an address and phone number).
