The Academy of Prosocial Learning (APL) online course, HE 005 An Educator's Role in Breaking the Cycle of Violence is open for registration.

Educators and those working with youth have a special opportunity to interact with children and families in a way that others may not. Part of this opportunity also means the possibility of hearing or seeing indicators of potential violence in the home. These are prime opportunities for intervention through humane education programs and to teach proactive humane principles in the community. Discover the relationship between cruelty to animals and interpersonal violence, how to recognize that cruelty is happening in a child’s home, and proactive solutions including youth outreach, humane education, and community partnerships.

Learn strategies to increase empathy as a preventative to violence; acquire useful tools for recognizing and responding to abuse related to children and families with animals; explore community level partnerships and mandated reporting involving humane societies, social service providers, educators, and law enforcement agencies.
