Email List - Guidelines

Introduction

You don't have to be member of APHE to participate in the e-mail list, but please consider joining our organization if you are not yet a member!

When you subscribe to a mailing list (which in this case is free), you get a copy of any e-mail message that anyone else on the list sends to the list address. Likewise, any e-mail message that you send to the list address will go to EVERYONE on the list. Suddenly you are in instant communication with your peers!

You are NOT anonymous on mailing lists, in that your e-mail address will probably show on any messages you post (send to the list address). Also, all past postings are available in the archives. There is no cost for subscribing to the list and you don't have to "register" any personal information.

How to Join

To subscribe, send a blank e-mail to:

aphe-subscribe@yahoogroups.com (If you have a signature file, deactivate it before you send the message. If your e-mail program allows, do not put any subject.)

Soon after you send the e-mail, you will receive an e-mail asking you to verify that you wish to join. (This is so no one can falsely use your name and e-mail address.) After you reply, you will receive an e-mail confirming that you have joined the list. You will also receive instructions for participating.

How to Send Messages to the List

After you have joined the mailing list, just send your e-mail message to: aphe@yahoogroups.com

Or, just hit "reply" when you get a message from the list, type your note and send it, and your reply will go to the list.

Everyone who is subscribed to the list will automatically get a copy of any message you send to the list. Only subscribers may post (send messages) to the list.

Netiquette

Do not quote entire messages when replying to a post. Keep the parts relevant to your remarks and cut out the rest.
Please try to stick to the subject - Humane Education- or at least use the subject header [NON-APHE] if you don't.
This list is NOT for animal activist alerts. Also do not send image files, graphics, or virus alerts to the list.
We encourage you to consider sending one-liners, me toos, condolences, etc. privately instead of to the list or to combine several short replies into one message.
It is nice to "sign" your message with your name, and to put your e-mail address under your name. Some people are on e-mail programs that do not show the sender's name and address. Sometimes people will want to send you a personal note, instead of a message that goes to the whole list.
Remember, the APHE e-mail list is a Flame-Free Internet Zone. We expect list members to treat each other with respect, both on and off the list. If your feathers get ruffled, try to respond calmly and courteously.

Here is how offenders are handled. After a first offense, a subscriber's posts will be moderated (they must be approved by the moderator before being sent to the list). After the 2nd offense, the subscriber will not be allowed to post to the list for 60 days. After the 3rd offense, the subscriber will be removed from the list.

Archive

The archive for nearly every note ever posted to the list is at:

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/aphe. Only members of the APHE e-mail list and Yahoo can access the archive. Sign in if you are already a member of yahoo or sign up if for free if you are not, in order to access the archive. You will be prompted to do so at the archive page.

At the archive you can read posts online and also do searches.

How to Search the Archive

Only members of the APHE e-mail list and yahoo may search the archive. Go to http://groups.yahoo.com/group/aphe. To search the archive, sign in if you are already a member of yahoo or sign up for free if you are not. Next, under Most Recent Messages, you will see a box in which you can type the words you are searching for. Then click on "Search Archive".

Subscription Options

Go to http://groups.yahoo.com/group/aphe. To change your subscription options, sign in if you are already a member of yahoo or sign up for free if you are not. (You will see a prompt for doing this.) After signing in, look under "Membership". You will see a link to click on that says "Delivery Options." After you click on that link, you can choose to receive the messages as individual e-mails or as a daily digest (all the e-mails for one day are grouped into one message, which you receive once a day). You can also choose "Don't send me e-mail, I'll read the messages at the Web site" which is good for when you are on vacation. You can catch up on any e-mails you miss by visiting the archive at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/aphe. (You can also choose other options, such as the ability to receive html mail.) After you choose the option you want, be sure to click on "save changes."

How to Leave the Email List

First you have to weep and wail and say how much you will miss us! (Note: If you need to temporarily suspend receiving mail from the list, see the "Don't send me e-mail, I'll read the messages at the website" command under Subscription Options, above.)

After that, send a BLANK e-mail message to:

aphe-unsubscribe@yahoogroups.com (If you have a signature file, deactivate it before you send the message. If your e-mail program allows, do not put any subject.)
