What year did you begin volunteering or working in the humane education field?
2007
Education
I graduated from Michigan State University with a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education and a minor in Music. I recently received my M.Ed. in Humane Education from the Institute for Humane Education.
Hobbies/Special Area(s) of Interest
Spending time with my family (including my furry little ones!) and friends; yoga (I'll be a certified yoga teacher mid-2012); growing fruits and veggies in my garden; and continually learning about various social justice, animal welfare, and environmental protection issues so that I can work toward leading a MOGO life, a term coined by Zoe Weil that refers to doing the most good and least harm in our everyday actions for people, other species, and the environment.
I Share My Home With:
My adopted senior pup, Cooper, and my rescued senior cat, Kashi. They mean the world to me!
I Chose to Work in Humane Education Because:
I was extremely excited when I learned about the field of broad-based Humane Education. I never imagined that all of my passions - animal welfare, environmental protection, and human rights/social justice - could be combined into one profession. My goal as a humane educator is to instill a desire to make a positive difference for the Earth and its inhabitants. My efforts are focused on providing individuals with the information and tools to make informed decisions on how to “walk softly and treat the Earth’s creatures gently.” |
