I Share My Home With:
My wonderful husband Clay, 5 dogs and 2 cats. Specifically, we have Dune, a 13 yr old white lab mix, Shasta, a 7 year old black lab mix, Emily a 10 year old healer mix, Dixie a 4 year old black lab mix (and Katrina survivor), Cedar a 1 year old black lab, Phoenix a 10 year old Maine Coon Mix and Simon a 4 year old B&W DSH mix.

I Chose to Work in Humane Education Because:
When I worked in a classroom, my emphasis was always on teaching children to respect the earth, its inhabitants and to protect the environment.  It concerned me that so many children were being taught about the rainforest and other places they might never see, but they didn’t know what was in their own backyard.  I knew that if you could teach a child to care about what they could see and/or touch, as they grew they could then expand their caring to what they couldn’t see.  What was closer than the animals that lived in their home – their pets?!?  Humane Education was a natural next step for me. Since coming to Best Friends I have learned so much about teaching people to care about animals. APHE has been and continues to be an incredible resource for me and I hope to be a support to other humane educators going forward.
